Transparent PNG maker
Make a PNG with a genuine alpha channel, at full resolution, without an account.
A PNG can record how present each pixel is, not just what colour it is. That is what makes transparency possible, and it is why PNG is the format to use for a logo, an overlay, or a photo meant to sit on top of something else.
This tool fades parts of a photo into that transparency and saves the result. Everything happens in your browser.
Step by step
- Add your image. Click the canvas, drag a file, or paste from the clipboard. No upload.
- Fade the parts you want gone. From an edge, along a placed gradient, or inside a shape.
- Check it against a background. The checkerboard behind the image is the editor showing you what is transparent. It is not part of the file.
- Download as PNG. Full resolution, alpha channel intact, no watermark.
PNG, WebP and JPG
PNG — Transparency, lossless, universally supported. Larger files. The safe default.
WebP — Transparency, smaller files, supported in all current browsers. Good for the web, occasionally awkward in older desktop software.
JPG — No transparency at all. Will fill anything transparent with white. Never use it for a faded image.
Why the file is bigger than the original
If your input was a JPG, the PNG that comes out is likely several times larger, and that is expected rather than a fault. JPG throws away detail to save space; PNG does not throw anything away, and it is also storing an extra alpha value for every pixel. If the size is a problem, WebP will usually get most of it back while keeping the transparency.
Common questions
Is there a file size or resolution limit?
Not one we impose. Because the work happens on your own device, the practical ceiling is your device's memory. Very large images on an older phone may be slow.
Is it watermarked?
No, and the free version is full resolution.
Do I need an account?
No. Nothing to sign up for to fade an edge and download the result.
